When the Grimes County crime lab opened more than four years ago, authorities were able to keep cases within the county. But a recent employee shortage forces them to send some cases to the DPS crime lab in Dallas.
After a year of in-operation, the county wants to get the lab back to full steam.
The Brazos Valley Council of Governments has requested a $200,000 grant from Governor Rick Perry that would turn the crime lab into a regional center that would serve seven area counties.
