College Station has the go ahead from the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission to pass an ordinance against open containers on the Northgate Promenade.

Monday afternoon, the commissioners in Austin approved the city's petition to declare Northgate a central business district.

By doing so, the city can now pass an ordinance banning kegs and open containers at the popular College Station bar scene.

The TABC rarely rejects these types of requests but one notable exception was the city of New Braunfels attempt to declare the river a central business district.

The College Station City Attorney says an ordinance has not been finalized but one may be presented to the council within a reasonable amount of time.
