A Bryan elementary school is preparing to kick off Thanksgiving Week with a food drive.
Sul Ross Elementary is hosting its "Can Do" Food Drive this Tuesday. The public is urged to stop by the school and drop off canned food items.
Teachers, students and parents will be lined up along the circle driveway accepting donations between 8 a.m and 9 a.m. Tuesday. Donations will also be accepted between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. during the lunch hour the same day.
The service learning project is aimed at impacting the community and teaching students like Natalie and Clancy Fisher.
"I think it gives kids experience with helping the community," Natalie said.
Her brother says bringing canned goods will help erase any reason why people go hungry.
"People should donate food to others because people don't have food or they just don't have enough money to buy food," Clancy said.
All the donations collected will then be dropped off at the Brazos Center on December 6 during the KBTX Food For Families Food Drive.
