A major accident on Highway 6 Monday morning had the northbound lanes closed for about three and a half hours.

College Station police say a Cadillac Seville was southbound on Highway 6 when it lost a tire due to a mechanical failure. Officers say the tire then bounced over the concrete divider and struck the front of a northbound Mazda Miata.

The driver of the Miata, Howard Mooney of Millican, was transported to the College Station Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Cadillac, Thomas Black of Brenham, was not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time. The accident remains under investigation.
