Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
Gov. Rick Perry named former Houston Judge David M. Medina to fill a vacancy on the Texas Supreme Court Tuesday.
Medina is Perry’s General Counsel.
Democratic State Senator Mario Gallegos of Houston told the San Antonio Express-News that Medina's ethics "are impeccable" and he's well liked.
The 46-year-old Medina would be the second Hispanic among five appointments Perry has made to the court.
He would fill a vacancy left by Perry's promotion of Wallace Jefferson of San Antonio to Chief Justice.
Jefferson is the first black jurist to lead the court.
While still governor, George W. Bush appointed Medina in 1996 to be a Harris County state district judge.
He won election to that job in 1998.
