Nearly two decades of work this time of year for Gloria Kennard and a number of volunteers pays off in their hearts and minds.
For 19 years, Gloria Kennard of Bryan has organized a Thanksgiving Day meal for her fellow residents. She's a Morning Star Baptist Church member, but it was Pleasant Grove Baptist Church that hosted the event.
Since the end of last month, Kennard has been preparing for the annual free feast. She planned to feed 250 people with 15 turkeys and 200 pounds of ham.
"It gives you a really good feeling when people come up and give to you," Kennard said. "It's better to give than to receive, so it's just good to give. We have so much to be thankful for, and it's just good to give food on Thanksgiving Day to those that are in need."
A number of volunteers came out to help with the event, including students from the A&M Veterinary School. First National Bank also helped out with the dinner.
