After a fatal accident on Highway 21, one family is coping with the loss of their daughter and keeping their spirits up for their son who's still hospitalized.
Emily Santoyo was a bright young girl who loved to smile and loved her five cats. But most of all she had a strong faith at the young age of eight.
Juan Davila, her cousin says Emily was a ray of hope for the family and adds, "Her mom and dad are so proud of her. She exceeded in school, she was loved by everyone."
"My daughter was good, spiritual and she loved her family, she was just special," says Emily’s mother, Jessica.
Emily died Monday after complications from a car accident on her way to a church retreat in Kerrville. As her parents are mourning the loss of a child, there also trying to keep their spirits up for their 12-year-old son, David who was involved in the Highway 21 accident.
"It's the presence of God who's getting us through this," says father, David Santoyo.
The family of seven lives in a small two-bedroom home. They don't have much money, but Emily made a special gift for her mother. A purse she made out of two pieces of paper with pieces of yarn holding it together. It's inscribed, from Emily; this is to save money for my mom and dad's new home.
With her humble heart and bright smile, her family knows Emily's in a better place as one of God's angels.

Two fundraisers will be held Wednesday help the Santoyo family at Fannin Elementary and El Tio's Restaurant from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A rosary will be held at Calloway-Jones Funeral Home, Wednesday at 6 p.m. Burial is set for 11 a.m., Thursday.
