SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Authorities in San Antonio say a man sentenced to 35 years in prison in the beating death of his girlfriend's son was found unconscious in his jail cell and later died.
Joel Monteagudo died this weekend and left a note, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff says.
An in-custody death at the jail is under investigation.
Monteagudo pleaded no contest in the death of three-year-old Brian
Rivera and maintained he did not abuse the boy.
The toddler died last year after sustaining a lacerated liver and a torn small intestine, according to the Bexar County medical examiner's office.
Monteagudo said he pushed on Brian's stomach several times to relieve the boy's constipation.
