Connor was the 104th secretary of state in Texas.

Connor replaced Gwyn Shea, who resigned last year.

A new secretary of state will be appointed by Governor Rick
Perry.

Meanwhile, Perry late today announced the appointment of Buddy
Garcia of Austin as assistant secretary of state.

Garcia since 2001 has served as Senate liaison for the
governor's office and as a special assistant to Perry on border
affairs.

Perry recently appointed the Brownsville native as Border
