HOUSTON (AP) - A lawyer says a toddler believed to be the girl found dead in Galveston Bay was beaten to death by her stepfather when she didn't say "please" and "yes sir."
Attorney Tommy Stickler Junior also confirms that the two-year-old girl's mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, is pregnant.
Stickler says the fatal beating happened after Royce Clyde Zeigler II stayed home from work to make sure his wife followed the discipline plan he'd established for her daughter.
Riley Ann Sawyers is believed to be the girl that authorities dubbed "Baby Grace" after her body was found last month in a plastic container in Galveston Bay.
Zeigler and Trenor were arrested Saturday after the woman told police she and her husband killed her daughter in July.
They're charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence.
An attorney for Ziegler says Trenor's story isn't believable and she's placing all the blame on her husband.
The toddler's father lives in Ohio.
