College Station students have swept a contest all about art and roads.

Claire Simmons won first place in the 2nd Annual Transportation Poster Contest, which is sponsored by the Texas District of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, or TexITE. Simmons is a sixth grader in College Station.

Sarah Petrus and Parker Samuleson, both College Station sixth graders, earned second and third place honors, while an honorable mention nod went to College Station sixth grader Kelly Williams.

Cash prizes went to the first, second and third place winners of the contest, which asked students to create an original piece of art about the past, present and future of transportation in the state. The work could not be computer generated.

The TexITE Future Engineers Committee sponsored the competition. That group's goal is to inspire and encourage students in public schools to go after careers and degrees ain engineering and science.
