A former Bryan High School ROTC instructor convicted of sexual assault has been sentenced.
A Brazos County jury determined a punishment on Friday of 10 years in prison, but recommended probation for Ricky Ray James.
The terms and conditions of the probation will be decided by 361st District Judge Steve Smith during a January 2 hearing.
"The jury's verdict tells us that the victim told the truth and that is what is important here," Brazos County Assistant District Attorney Cory Crenshaw said.
James, 50, was found guilty Thursday of having a nine-month sexual relationship with one his students. He was arrested in January, after the student told College Station police that James would pick her up from school and take her to his apartment.
James faced up to 20 years in prison.
