The families of seven victims of the Texas A&M bonfire collapse reportedly will share four-and-a-quarter million dollars.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that a partial settlement has been reached of a lawsuit stemming from the accident.
A plaintiff's attorney says the families of four Aggies who died in the collapse will share the money with families of three who were injured in the accident. The deal was reached with 25 student leaders of the bonfire construction.
It's the first resolution of claims resulting from the November
18, 1999, collapse that killed 12 Aggies and injured 27 others.
The lawsuit still has 36 other defendants, including ten other bonfire leaders. Others include former Texas A&M President Ray
Bowen, the Texas Aggie Bonfire Committee and construction
contractors assisting with the stack.
Texas A&M also remains a defendant in the state lawsuit.
