Funeral Set For Aggie Killed in Chopper Crash

An Aggie killed in last weeks helecopter crash in Iraq, will be laid to rest this weekend.

Marine Captain Lyle Gordon was killed Wednesday when his chopper went down in Iraq. 31 died when the Super Stallion crashed during a mission Wednesday.

Aggie class of '97, Gordon was a member of Company E-2 in the Corps of Cadets. He helped raise the University's mascot, Reveille. After graduating from Texas A&M, Gordon worked at Sanderson Farms. He had been in the reserves, and joined the military full-time in 2000.

Gordon kept in touch with his family and many buddies from the Corps through e-mail. For some, this Christmas picture and note was the last they heard from him. His mom and dad spoke to their son Christmas Eve when his wife, Kaci Gordon, visited for the holidays.

Gordon was scheduled to come home from Iraq this March, he had three and a half years left to serve in the Marines.

He will be laid to rest this Saturday in his hometown of Midlothian. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Midlothian Conference Center, One Community Circle in Midlothian. Gordon's Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the Hannibal Cemetery near Thurber.

Lyle Gordon was assigned to the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif.
