A Madisonville man remains in critical condition tonight after being shot Monday by a police officer. Benjamin "Cody" Morning is being treated at Scott and White in Temple for a pair of gunshot wounds he received after allegedly lunging at Madisonville police with a knife.

The incident happened shortly after 5p.m. on Casey Street. Authorities attempting to arrest Morning on outstanding warrants found him hiding inside a vacant mobile home and refusing to come out. The shooting occurred as police tried to enter the home.

The Texas Rangers are now handling the investigation. The officer involved in the shooting is on temporary paid administrative leave.
