Bryan residents J.C. and Pat Humphries found out early Friday morning thier son Mark was on the plane that crashed in Afghanistan the day before. Their middle son Chris, also in Afghanistan, was on the other end of the phone with bad news about the downed jet.
Mark Humphries, 52, was an engineer who graduated from Texas A&M in 1973. He was working for the New Jersey based Louis Berger Group on a road project. More than 100 people were aboard the Afghan jetliner that crashed in a snowstorm as it was approaching the airport in Kabul. Six Americans, including Mark, were aboard.
The wreckage has been located, but as of Sunday, weather problems have prevented rescuers from getting to the scene.
The Humphries don't think anyone could have survived the crash. Mark's brother, Sam, is the owner of Bryan's Petal Patch Florist. The Humphries say they are relying on their friends, chruch and community to get through the tragedy.
