A bizarre story of love, betrayal and attempted murder in Washington County. Authorities said they have a Brenham woman in a Harris County jail accused of trying to hire a hit man to murder her husband.

According to reports, Shelly Owens wanted to have her husband murdered before their divorce became final because she stood to collect on a half-million dollar insurance policy. Authorities said they foiled the plot when an undercover officer posed as a hit man and took a $25,000 payment for the job.

Owens is charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder, while two alleged accomplices, Jerry Ordner and Charles Campbell, are both charged with solicitation of capital murder.

All were arrested last week in a case that involved the FBI, Houston Police and Brenham Police.
