Two local establishments made the Christmas holiday more special this year for several elementary students.
Academy and Freebirds gave away bikes, helmets, and other accessories to deserving Bryan students who did well in school.
As part of Academy's annual Christmas Bike Donation, 26 bikes were donated to Anson Jones Elementary School Friday afternoon. The students were chosen and awarded for their good conduct, attendance, and academic achievements.
The Sports and Outdoors chain will be donating 1,300 bikes and helmets to elementary students all across the nation this Christmas.
Freebirds gave away 12 bikes to students at Fannin Elementary.
The bikes were given to the winners of a school-wide essay and picture competitions. This is the ninth year Freebirds has donated bikes with the hope of motivating children to do well in school.
