Being home for Christmas has a very special meaning for three families in Bryan this year.
A dedication ceremony for Odessa Thurman and her grandson Leonard’s new home was just one of three ceremonies held by the Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity on Saturday.
The Thurman, Dennis/Gilbert, and Mitchell families received the keys to the front door of their new homes.
In addition, they also received a house blessing and house warming gifts.
Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity’s Communications Coordinator Dena Freeman says it took 3,000 hours of manpower from the homeowners and volunteers to complete construction of the homes just in time for Christmas.
"It's always amazing for the families to get the keys to their new home right before the holiday season,” Freeman said. “It means a lot to them and it makes it a special time of year."
Sponsorship for the three homes was provided by Habitat's sponsored churches, the Circle of Women, and the College Station Medical Center.
