A day after the big FutureGen announcement, the Alliance reveals why it chose Mattoon, Illinois to host the site.
In its final selection report, the Alliance states all four sites vying for the power plant were acceptable, and offered individual advantages to the project. However, they found the Illinois site pulled ahead of its competition in several areas.
The alliance liked the fact that the Mattoon site was able to provide a clear legal title to its power plant and injection sites, providing minimal land ownership risks. It also found that Mattoon has a secure water source, and that the geological conditions are optimal, and would reduce operating costs.
The report also noted a strong community support for the project in the area.
