HOUSTON -- NASA's reassigning the duties of an astronaut aboard the international space station as he grieves for his mother.

Rose Tani was the mother of astronaut Daniel Tani. The 90-year-old Lombard, Illinois, woman was killed Wednesday when a train struck her vehicle in her suburban Chicago hometown.

Her son can't return to earth until late January. A church minister says the family is meeting Thursday to plan her memorial services.

Authorities say Mrs. Tani was behind a school bus that stopped at a train crossing. Officers said she apparently became impatient and drove around the bus onto the track, where her car was hit.
