After 43 years of service to company and community, Mervin Peters' retirement has officially begun.
Thursday, community leaders, friends and colleagues turned out at the Wells Fargo on Briarcrest in Bryan to wish Peters well.
The longtime bank executive has survived locations changes, acquisitions and name changes over his career.

Numerous friends and colleagues spoke of Peters' dedication over the years. Among the well wishers was State Senator Steve Ogden, who gave Peters a flag flown over the state capitol.
In his remarks, Peters thanked his bosses, his coworkers and the community he loves for their support over the years.
He added that when he woke up recently and realized he didn't have to go to work, he didn't know what to do with himself. Now, though, he said he's figured it out, and that he's going to have fun.
Earlier this month, Peters said that "fun" would include spending time with family, taking some trips and doing some photography.
