Sheriff's Son Charged in Hit-and-Run Death

The son of the Madison County Sheriff has been charged in connection with the hit-and-run death of a Madisonville woman has been arrested.

Joel Douget, 32, son of Sheriff Dan Douget, is being held without bond at the Madison County jail on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Police allege Douget was driving drunk Monday when he hit Gay Norwood, 55, who was walking on Trinity Street shortly after noon. Norwood was flown to Scott and White in Temple where she died of her injuries.

Meanwhile police were called to a wreck on Bacon Street near Highway 75. Douget was arrested at the scene for public intoxication. After further investigation, police enhanced the charge against Douget after concluding he was the driver who hit Norwood.
