Crash Diverts College Station Traffic, Passengers Safe

Updated: Sat 9:34 PM, Dec 11, 2004

Two pick-up trucks collided along Wellborn Road and sent flames and smoke into the sky that could be seen for miles around.

It happened about 10:30 AM. The trucks -- one white and one red -- were travelling northbound on Wellborn just past the University Drive ramp. Police believe the white truck was either changing lanes or attempting a U-turn when the vehicles crashed into each other.

The fire began under the hood of the white truck, and both trucks were severely damaged by the flames. First responders arrived within ten minutes and were able to contain the blaze.

Traffic was diverted for a little less than an hour while the scene was cleaned up. Among those who had to take a detour were 300 motorcycles who were delivering toys to needy families.

Four people -- two adults and two children -- were taken to St. Joseph with what are described as minor injuries.
