Bush and Putin Find Common Ground

By: Associated Press

President Bush says he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to accelerate their work to protect nuclear weapons and materials.

He says they've also agreed on additional new efforts to fight the war on terror.

Speaking to reporters after their meeting in Slovakia Thursday, Bush said he and Putin also agreed that Iran and North Korea shouldn't have
nuclear weapons.

Bush didn't steer clear of his differences with Putin -- who the
administration believes has been backing away from democratic
principles in Russia.

Bush says he made the point in a "constructive and friendly way" that strong countries are built from strong democracies. And he says that means a rule of law, protection of minorities, and a free press.
