The city of Navasota has a new tourism director. Texas A&M graduate Kourtney Gruner has accepted the position with a start date of January 14.
"I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to attract more visitors to our community," said Gruner. "I look forward to establishing relationships with both our businesses and citizens while striving to showcase all that Navasota offers."
Gruner is the first director to work under Navasota's newly-reconfigured office of tourism. In late 2007, the Grimes County Chamber of Commerce and the city of Navasota agreed that the city would take over the promotion of tourism for the city and its surroundings.
Gruner plans to develop new events and embrace existing ones by offering a new energy to their promotion and marketing. Tourism promotion is funded by hotel occupancy tax, which is charged when a visitor stays in our local motels and bed and breakfasts.
