College Station is upping the ante on security at its municipal court.
Starting Monday, anyone entering the court on Krenek Tap Road will go through a metal detector.
The $35,000 system will be paid for by an additional $3 fee on citation fines, a fee that was started by the state 1999 in order to improve security at its courts.
Municipal Court Judge Ed Spillane called the move a proactive step to keep citizens safe.
"This is just another effort by the city to ensure everyone’s safety in the court," Spillane said in a press release. "Many of the cases involve emotional situations with both defendants and the families of those affected by the cases we see.”
