The second suspect shot in Sunday's foiled robbery attempt is out of the hospital and behind bars.

Stephen Gilbert, 31, was discharged from St. Joseph Regional Health Center Wednesday afternoon, where he was being treated for two gunshot wounds inflicted by police.

Gilbert was not carrying a gun during the robbery attempt, but was brandishing a steel bar, Bryan Assistant Police Chief Pete Scheets said.
Four new counts of aggravated robbery were added Wednesday to Gilbert's initial aggravated robbery charge.

Police say Gilbert's accomplice, Michael Hall, 19, was carrying a nine millimeter semi-automatic pistol with a 30-round magazine.

Although Hall never fired his weapon, police said they gave him multiple verbal commands to drop his pistol. He was shot four times by police and died in the robbery attempt.

Police strongly suspect Hall and Gilbert are responsible for a string of violent robberies in Bryan that targeted Hispanic men, Scheets said. Hall was wanted for at least eight robberies in Austin.

Santo Reyes, who was taken hostage by the suspects, was also shot by police in the shoulder. He was listed in fair condition Wednesday evening at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

The six officers, including two sergeants, have been placed on administrative leave pending investigation. The officers were scheduled to attend a stress management briefing Wednesday evening.
