Game day is approaching. The action will be intense. The fans will be riled up. It will be another memorable A&M-Texas Tech football clash...wait, that's not right.
Aggie students do know that football season is over, and that basketball season is bigger and better than ever. Devotion once reserved for the gridiron has now transferred to the Aggies of the hardwood, and there's no better example of this than the tents outside of Reed Arena. Welcome to Gillispie-Ville, population: 5, as of Friday afternoon.
"We were told people were going to be here Thursday," said student ticket holder Aubrey Bloom. "We wanted to make sure we were first. So we came out here Wednesday and set up."
In the luxury accommodations of Gillispie-Ville, you've got a bed, a television and video gaming equipment. Basically, it's anything anyone coming through "town" would want.
The last thing they wanted was a storm like they received early Thursday morning.
"I was on the floor and everyone else was dry except me," said another camper, Aaron Huff. "I don't know why. I think water is attracted to me or Mother Nature hates me or something."
Now you may remember the last time students camped out for tickets. Bloom certainly does, as he shot the now-infamous "list-eater" footage.
When asked if he thought a list would be eaten this time around, Bloom said, "Last year, I said no, but since Aggie basketball is becoming pretty big, you never know what could happen."
They're prepared this year. They've made a backup list.
"It's a basketball game, but it's a lot more than that," said camper Kevin Maxwell. "It's the 12th Man spirit to come out here and support the team. It's a lot of fun and we have a lot of fun doing it."
