Washington County has lassoed a winning bid for new rodeo arena seats.

County commissioners decided on a bid of $88,000 from Sturdy Steel Company in Waco for the $150,000 project. Sturdy Steel will replace the old arena seats with almost 1,800 new ones, which will expand stadium capacity.

County Judge Dorothy Morgan says the old seats are over 20 years old and do not comply with A.D.A. standards.

"I think our fairgrounds is an excellent drawing card for a lot of events and now with additional seating, I think we can have a lot more events," said Morgan.

The County will fund $100,000, and the fair association will make up the rest.

The Burton School District bought the old bleacher stands for $4,000.
