Former President Clinton to Undergo Surgery

By: Associated Press

Former President Clinton will return to the operating room this week to have scar tissue removed from around his heart.

Clinton's office in New York says surgeons will also remove fluid from the chest area. A spokesman calls the operation an occasional consequence of the type of quadruple bypass surgery he underwent last year.

The former president will check into New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. His office says the risk of the procedure is low, but Clinton will remain in the hospital three to ten days afterwards.

Clinton has been quite active since the heart operation last September. He hosted last fall's opening of his presidential library in Little Rock, Arkansas. Most recently, he's been traveling as part of a campaign to help raise private funds for the victims of the south Asia tsunami. He's expected to discuss those efforts at the White House today.
