County commissioners discussed a $12 million plan to build a new parking garage across from the courthouse.
Congressman Chet Edwards has promised to earmark some money for the project.
The parking garage would have 600 spaces to accommodate the increasing parking problems in downtown Bryan and near the courthouse.
Offices would also be built in the garage, and people would have to pay to park unless they are scheduled for jury duty.
In related news, County Judge Randy Sims will be in Austin for the next three days to lobby legislators.
Judge Sims says the county's pushing for truth in taxation, meaning if the county's tax rate goes up public forums must be held.
