Report: Racial Profiling Not a Problem

By: Lindsay Liepman

The Brazos County Sheriff's office says racial profiling is still not a problem.

The results for the 2004 racial profiling report are in...and just like the year before, there were no reports against officers for racial profiling.

And the percentage of contacts by race only have a 7 percent or less variance between each race category.

That is slightly up from a 6.3 percent difference in 2003.

Of those contacted by sheriff's deputies, 82 percent were white or hispanic, 16 percent were black and less than one percent were Asian or Native American.

In 2002, the state required law enforcement to collect statistics on possible racial profiling.
