Brenham City Council Outsources City Attorney Position

By: Carly Kennelly

The former Brenham city attorney is upset he didn't receive 8 weeks of benefits after his termination last month.

At the city council meeting Thursday afternoon, Randy Patterson spoke in front of the city council about his denial of benefits. Patterson was laid off because the city wanted to outsource the job to save money.

Council members approved Thursday a part time contract for a city attorney and assistant city attorney.

Patterson doesn't understand the cost savings because he said he has the experience and knowledge to save city money in the long-run.

"If you have someone with a tremendous amount of experience and what's generally known as tribal knowledge, knowing the land, knowing the people, knowing the cases, etc, you can do things a whole lot more efficiently," said Patterson.
