A&M President Robert Gates and Coach Franchione both plan to stick around a little longer.

Thursday, regents gave the chancellor the go ahead to pay President Gates more money and extend his contract.

Currently, Gates makes $300,000 annually and is under a five-year contract.

After negotiations Gates could make around $475,000 a year and add over two years to his term.

Athletic Director Bill Byrne has also been given the go-ahead to extend Dennis Franchione's contract as head football coach.

Regent Spokesman Erle Nye says at least a year is expected to be added.
