Hearne Celebrates New Elementary School

Hearne students have new halls to roam.

Thursday evening, the school district held a celebration for its new elementary school.

The old Eastside and Blackshear campuses have been closed, so now all Hearne elementary students will be taking classes together.

"We're very proud because it's for the kiddos," said David Deaver, Hearne ISD's superintendent. "The kids deserve the best and our teachers deserve the best. They deserve a nice, warm building that's safe, that has all the new technology and tools available to aid their teaching."

The building is located just behind the high school, and was approved by voters in a 2005 bond election.

Blackshear Elementary first opened its doors in 1956, while Eastside was the older school, as it opened in 1954.
