For more than 70 years, St. Joseph Regional Health Center has been in Bryan. Now, it's getting ready to open its doors in College Station.
"We're going to unpack supplies. We're going to be unpacking a lot of the supplies, working to ensure our rooms are equipped properly," Diana Dean, the Director of Occupational Health and Express Care, said. "We'll be conducting some dry runs, as you could call it, so we have ourselves perfected."
The St. Joseph Express Urgent Care Center is now in a race to the finish line. Opening day is just a little more than a week away.
"It has nine exam rooms, a couple of orthopedic rooms, X-ray lab services. We have the ability to provide additional lab imaging services via trailer, and we'll have physicians on site seven days a week," Vice President for Outpatient Services Jon Turton said.
In addition to spacious exam and treatment rooms, all of the rooms are electronically wired to detect motion, so when you walk into a room, the lights turn on.
"We're using the latest and greatest here to make sure this is the greatest patient experience ever," Turton said.
No more long waits for x-rays either. Doctors will now be able to pull up digital images right after the pictures are taken.
"Hopefully we'll be able to relieve some of the crowding in the emergency rooms because we'll be able to handle all the minor emergencies, lacerations, injuries and illnesses you would go to the emergency room for, but you didn't want to have to wait the long time," Medical Director Dr. Robert Howard said.
Officials say the facility is just the start of the medical community they'll be developing in the future.
"Plans are for a hospital and medical office building and just an exposure in College Station," Howard said.
When it comes to St. Joe's Express, convenience is just what the doctor ordered.
"We'll have physicians on site seven days a week," Turton said.
Dean added, "We have extended hours. We're here from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. Saturday, and 1p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday."
The St. Joseph Express Urgent Care Center is located near the Greens Prairie exit off of Highway 6. Opening day is January 28.
