A pain management facility in Bryan is being investigated by the Attorney General's office for Medicaid fraud.

After eight Thursday morning, deputies with the Brazos County Sheriff's office and investigators with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the AG's office served the Lonestar Healthcare Group Center for Pain Management with a search warrant.

Tom Kelley with the Attorney General's Office issued this statement, "I can confirm that our Medicaid Fraud Control Unit officers executed a search warrant at that location but we cannot comment further."

Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk says the warrant is only an investigative warrant and no arrest were to be made on Thursday.

News 3 spoke with an employee who said the office was closed for the day with staff members were told to return Friday. While investigator's worked, telephone calls were forwarded to an answering service.

The state's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit conducts criminal investigations of providers who may be cheating the program. Investigators, auditors and attorneys also assist in the prosecution of Medicaid providers who defraud the system or abuse the elderly.
