When the College Station city council passed an ordinance banning open containers on Northgate, people thought they had 60 days before it would take effect.
But apparently that's not the case.
Technically, an ordinance is in effect 10 days after the city council makes a decision.
College Station police are not enforcing the law yet, but they are handing out warnings and making anyone drinking on the promenade get rid of their alcohol.
Violators will start getting actual tickets at the beginning of the summer.
