HOUSTON -- Industry guidelines and BP internal checklists suggest a construction trailer should not have been only 100 to 150 feet away from the vent stack that shot out liquid and vapors that ignited at a Texas City refinery last month.
The trailer, used as a temporary office, was the deadliest spot at the time of the explosion killing 15 people. The Houston Chronicle reports today that federal investigators are asking questions about the trailer's location.
Many of those who died in the March 23 blast were meeting in the construction trailer when the blast occurred. Another 100 people were injured.
There are no hard and fast rules about where to put trailers in a refinery.
