HONG KONG -- Seismologists say a strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake has hit near the Indonesian island of Sumatra. There have been no reports of a tsunami or damage from the quake.

The Hong Kong Observatory says the epicenter was about 70 miles southwest of Padang, a city in western Sumatra. Sumatra was devastated by the December tsunami and earthquake that killed nearly 183,000 people in eleven countries and left another 129,000 missing.

Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, was the hardest hit.
