Double Execution Set for Wednesday

Print
By: Associated Press

Two executions are set for Wednesday night at the Walls Unit in Huntsville. The double execution would be the first in the state since August 2000 if it is carried out as scheduled.

42 year old Douglas Roberts is to be executed for the abduction and fatal stabbing of a San Antonio man in Kendall County in May 1996. Roberts has asked that his attorneys file no more appeals on his behalf.

26 year old Milton Mathis faces execution for the shooting deaths of two men at a reputed drug house in Fort Bend County in December 1998. A 15 year old girl was seriously wounded in the shootings.

The state received the order Roberts' execution before the one for Mathis. That means his execution should occur first. If the same procedures are used as in previous double executions, Mathis should go to the death chamber about an hour later.
