Walker County to Pick Jury in Turner Death Retrial

By  |

Jury selection began Monday in the retrial of a high-profile Grimes County murder case.

After a hung jury the first time, the capital murder trial of David White is now being tried in Huntsville.

White is accused of gunning down Lonnie Turner, Sr., a prominent Navasota civic leader in November 2002.

District Attorney Tuck McLain upgraded White's murder charge to capital murder after the first trial ended with a deadlocked jury.

Prosecutors will try and prove White acted alone in murdering Turner during the commission of a crime.

White contends he was forced to pull the trigger by Turner's own son, Lonnie Turner, Jr.

The prosecution was granted a change of venue because of intense media and public scrutiny surrounding the first trial.

Jury selection will continue Tuesday morning.
