BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The U.S. military says Iraqi civilians
helped them find six men suspected of shooting down a helicopter
north of Baghdad.
This week's crash left 11 civilians dead, including 6 Americans serving as bodyguards for American diplomats. The military says an Iraqi civilian told soldiers he knew where a blue pickup truck used in the attack was parked, and led them to the site. When the soldiers reached the area, several other local residents confirmed the initial tip.
The suspects were apprehended at two houses and taken into
custody for questioning. Two militant groups have claimed responsibility for the attack, and released footage to back the claims. In one video, insurgents are seen capturing and shooting to death the lone survivor, identified as a Bulgarian pilot.
