After more than three decades of service, a College Station police officer is hanging up his holster.
Lieutenant Gary Bishop is retiring after 31 years with the department. He was honored Wednesday at a community reception at the College Station Conference Center.
Bishop is the second longest serving employee in the department, having joined the force in 1978. Before that, he began his career with the Temple Police Department in 1976.
"These 29 years have really been a flash, they've really gone by quickly," he recalled.
Bishop was College Station's first SWAT team leader. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1980 and to Lieutenant in 2000.
Bishop is now working in the private sector.
