WATCHES AND WARNINGS

Recommendation Withdrawn

By: KBTX Staff

A recommendation for a College Station City Council candidate is pulled.

The Bryan-College Station Eagle's Editorial Board had recommended Place 5 candidate, Justin Whitworth.

On Friday, the Editorial Board withdrew its recommendation, saying Whitworth is not the candidate they thought he was.

The Editorial Board writes, "Whitworth has disappointed us by actively campaigning - not against his opponents but against candidates in other races."

In response to the board's decision, Whitworth said, "I am very grateful for the Eagle's endorsement. I believe on May 7th, the voters will prove that their initial response to my candidacy was justified. While I've been accused of running against a candidate in another race, it's ironic that the candidate, Ron Gay has been running against the Arts council and they are not on any ballot."

Whitworth sent out mailers attacking Ron Gay, who is running for a different position. This week Whitworth accused one of his opponents and another candidate of wanting to merge the Bryan and College Station school districts.
