Teacher Shot and Stabbed in 5th Grade Classroom

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP) - Police in Portsmouth, Ohio, say a man
accused of shooting his wife at an elementary school has been found
dead in his home.
The shooting happened earlier today. Officials say the teacher's
husband stabbed and shot her in her classroom in front of students,
then fled.
Police say the suspect apparently shot himself after SWAT teams
surrounded his house near the school.
No children were hurt in the incident. One student tells a local
TV station that she hid in the classroom's coatroom when the gunman
came in, and that an officer later came in and got the children as
the teacher lay in the room.
Police say another person in the community was stabbed before
the shooting at the school, and police believe the two attacks are
related.
The teacher, Christi Layne, is now hospitalized in critical
condition in nearby Huntington, West Virginia.
