A suspected bank robber, dubbed the Santa Claus Robber, may be responsible for several area holdups, including one in College Station.
Authorities believe his latest heist happened Wednesday when the Capital One Bank in Giddings was robbed. Police say a man wearing a fake beard entered the bank just before 1 p.m. After handing the teller a note demanding money, the suspect escaped with an undetermined amount of cash.
But investigators believe Giddings wasn't the Santa Claus Robber's first visit to the region. They think he's also responsible for robberies in Sealy, Columbus, Schulenburg, and College Station.
Authorities say a surveillance photo taken of the perpetrator who robbed Citibank in College Station on January 22, bears a striking resemblance to the suspect in several other recent holdups.
College Station police are now working with other state and local law enforcement agencies investigating the crimes. Texas Ranger Frank Malinak says a meeting has been set up for next week with the goal of forming a task force to track down the Santa Claus Robber.
