Former Aggie Coach Named to Regents

A legendary Aggie football coach is returning to his roots. Gene Stallings is one of two named Thursday to the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

Gov. Rick Perry announced fellow Aggies Stallings and businessman Lupe Fraga will serve until February of 2011. The appointments are subject to Texas Senate confirmation.

Stallings, who lives in Powderly, is a former head coach at A&M and Alabama who also coached the St. Louis and Phoenix Cardinals. He's also a former Dallas Cowboys assistant coach.

Stallings is in the Texas A&M Hall of Fame, the Texas and Alabama Sports Halls of Fames, the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame and the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame.

Fraga, who's from Sugar Land, is chairman and CEO of Tejas Office Products. He's also chairman of the board of the Houston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
