A cyclist is killed when a distracted driver drifted onto the shoulder and hit the rider. According to a DPS trooper on the scene, it happened just before 7pm Thursday. The female driver of the car admitted to the trooper she was looking down while driving and drifted on to the shoulder of Highway 30. The troopers say she then stuck the cyclist, who died at the scene. The rider was a white male in his mid-thirties.
DPS Trooper Eddie Carmon says this section of Highway 30, which is about four miles west of Carlos, has a newly widened shoulder. The cyclist's body will be taken to Conroe for an autopsy.
